The Pantheon
an homage to one of the oldest extant concrete structures, is comprised of 196 unique 3D printed cement polymer components. Each component is held in compression to create a structural network of individual masonry polymer blocks, each with a compressive strength of 1800psi.

KNUT HAMSUN CENTER
by Steven Holl Architects
This center dedicated to Hamsun is located above the Arctic Circle near village of Presteid of Hamarøy and the farm where the writer grew up. The museum includes exhibition areas, a library and reading room, a cafe and an auditorium. The concept for the museum is “building as a body,” creating a battleground of invisible forces.

Urchin Cloud (SHENYANG, CHINA)
The project was borne out of a model made from preposterous materials—noodles and sugar. From this miniature, and unlikely, beginning BAM designers worked together, drawing inspiration from everything from bio-luminescent underwater life to Italian bicycles to create the Urchin Cloud.

Y House in Catskills, New York - Steven Holl Architects
via:plusarchitekt
On a hilltop site in a remote section of the Catskill Mountains, the “Y” House ascends the hill, splitting to form two arms, ending in balconies. The “Y” cuts a slice of sky and draws the sun into the heart of the house. Like a found forked stick, the Y makes a primitive mark on a vast site. The geometry contains a sectional flip of public/private and day/night with bedrooms below and living above. Maximum wall hanging space to accommodate a contemporary art collection is balanced with windows framing unique views. Deep balconies facing nearly due south act as passive solar devices allowing the winter sun to penetrate the interiors while excluding the hot summer sun. Steel framing and roof are iron-oxide red, siding is stained cedar while interiors are white with ash floors.

Alexander Brodsky’s Teplyaki in the Chronology project
Always repost Brodsky’s work. Easily one of my favorite artists/architects I’ve ever worked with (as master printer) and probably the most influential on my work…

“Mankind faces a challenge comparable in size with the industrial revolution to build a sustainable society. In order to succeed, we need to learn how to coexist with nature. We propose a building that aims to become a symbol; not of power nor wealth, but of a new era of harmony and interplay between nature and mankind.”
perfect morning, a chill in the air, no work today, double shot of espresso and non-research based, open ended web surfing
I love the way that each surface/plane is either glass or solid—
there are no window cut outs, making the whole thing feel light and open like folded paper *
Also one entire floor of my house uses only shades of gray, white and yellow, so I definitely responded to the interior color scheme.
* I do realize I could have just said origami, but folded paper felt better— more open ended than saying origami

additional unnecessary note: If I had a chance to do things differently, there is a definite possibility that I’d choose architect or chef
