Nedko Solakov’s fear of flying is the impetus for his work installed at Old Kallang Airport. Rather than fly to Singapore to install the work as is customary, he upended the balance of trade by inviting a Singaporean to instead spend a few days in discussion with him in Sofia. Artist and filmmaker Liao Jiekai returned home to Singapore to create a Nedko Solakov work in the stairwell of the control tower at Old Kallang Airport. The ‘work of art’ in this instance is the actual training, the knowledge and experience of the artist’s touch – the mental and physical ways Solakov inhabits, and works, with space.
